Who We Are PDF Print E-mail

Riverton Friends Church is a non-denominational Christian fellowship with a rich Quaker (Friends) heritage.  RFC has been a part of southeast Kansas since 1867.  It was formed by Quakers settling in the Spring River Valley and purchasing the land from the Cherokee Nation of Indians.

Over the years, with a more mobile society, many people moved into this small community that were not of Quaker descent.  As time has passed, God gathered brothers and sisters from many Christian denominations and backgrounds.  We have become a family of Christian worshipers who do not let any denominational or theological preferences hinder us from being together and loving each other regardless of those differences.  We seek to express unity within the diversity,, acknowledging that Jesus’ high  command is to love God and love each other.

Therefore, we seek to gather together simply as believers.   We strive to worship together and serve the communities in which we exist together.  We desire to honor all Christian denominations and seek to hold none above the other.  Jesus said, “They will know you are my followers if you love one another.”

Jesus’ prayer was “...Thy kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven”.  We believe there will be one heaven comprised of all believers who put their faith and hope in Christ.  We do not believe there will be many denominational heavens.  So, “on earth as it is in heaven” is our idea of many people from many denominations meeting together in worship.   “One Lord.  One faith.  One baptism…..”

We are ordinary people that gather from communities throughout the four state areas to Worship God.

We are seeking the truth about life, humanity, death and the appropriate response to these things.

We are searching for answers as well as relationships that are true and lasting.

We are people who believe the Bible and in it find great comfort and tremendous courage for the challenges of life.

We are people who believe in God, who He is, what He says, and why He is so interested in having a relationship with each of us individually and who we are as a church corporately.

We are a people who have nothing special to offer you or hold no distinctive other than to try and love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and love our neighbor as ourselves.
